SAN FERNANDO CITY (PIA) – The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has led the facilitation of better traffic flow along Manila North Road in this city.
Jose Ginete, Jr., head of the DPWH La Union 1st District Engineering Office, said their office facilitated the improvement of the intersection along Manila North Road in Barangay Pennysylvania-Parian Road and Barangay Sevilla National Highway.
"The improved road facilitates local economic development and enables for speedier transit of agricultural products,” Ginete saiad.
The project was allocated with P18,635,789.06 in total under the 2022 General Appropriations Act.
This includes installing stainless steel safety barriers to withstand direct vehicle strikes, landscaping, and asphalt paving to give drivers a smoother ride.
For the safety of bypassers, two additional pedestrian lanes were added between Barangay Pennysylvania and Parian Road.
Solar street lights were also installed to reduce the danger of accidents by providing adequate lighting at night for drivers and protecting pedestrians. (JCR/JPD, PIA La Union)
