Besao ESLF to start operation by 2023

BAGUIO CITY (PIA) -- The local government of Besao, Mountain Province is preparing for the operationalization of the Engineered Sanitary Landfill (ESLF) established at Barangay Kin-iway by 2023.
Mayor Bryne Bacwaden, in an interview, said they are awaiting the machine to be donated by the Environmental Management Bureau - Cordillera (EMB-CAR).  The mayor said the EMB-CAR inspected last October the ESLF that started construction in 2019 following the approval of the 10-year Solid Waste Management Plan of the municipality.

“They (EMB-CAR) are very appreciative because a fifth class municipality with minimum resources is investing, prioritizing the construction of a sanitary landfill. They are telling us that our sanitary landfill is recommendable and above high standard ti EMB-CAR," Bacwaden shared.

In preparation for its full operation, Bacawden said they are already practicing solid waste management in town aside from utilizing the Materials Recovery Facilities in the barangays.

"Before operation, we are practicing diyay solid waste (management) itatta, we are practicing daytoy recycling tapnu nu ag-operate daytoy sanitary landfill ket saan nga mabiglaan ti tattao nu anya dagitoy recycling nga dagitoy," he said.

Bacwaden appealed to the people to cooperate and help in this endeavor which is also for the future generations.
“To our kakailian, dagitoy taga Besao, idawat ko latta diyay kooperasyon tayo, partisipasyon tayo, diyay tinnulong tayo, diyay ub-ubbo tayo ta isu ti kilala ti taga-Besao. Daytoy basura ket haan laeng nga problema ti LGU nu di ket problema tayo am-amin.
