DOH hails Dagupan City for its health service programs

DAGUPAN CITY (PIA) – The Department of Health-Ilocos Center for Health Development (DOH-CHD-1) recognized Dagupan City for its various health service programs during the Gawad Kalusugan 2022 held on December 12 in Bauang, La Union. 
 
Through the Gawad Kalusugan, the DOH awarded the best efforts of its partners  on health from private and government organizations and sectors to sustain and strengthen the support of every stakeholder towards productive, resilient, equitable, and people-centered health systems.
 
Awards given during the activity are the Madaydayaw, Palbayani, and Bannuar Iti Salun-At.
 
From which, Dagupan City bagged six awards.
 
The Madaydayaw Award was presented to the Dagupan City Health Office (CHO) for being the first Universal Health Care (UHC) integration site licensed as a primary care facility.
 
The Palbayani Award for UHC Champions on the other hand was awarded to Dagupan City for being the first UHC site in the region even as it commends the city’s performance in achieving UHC as reflected in the Local Health Systems Maturity Level.
 
Dagupan City also earned its status as Top Performing City Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit under the  Bannuar Iti Salun-At Award for Best Epidemiology Surveillance Units.
 
Under the same award, this time for Best TB Control Program Implementer, Dagupan City bagged the first prize for its exemplary support to the National Tuberculosis Program from which it attained 91.22% case detection rate for year 2022.
 
Moreover, the Dagupan CHO was hailed as Best AIDS, STI/HIV Prevention and Control Program Implementer Grand Winner for its AIDS, STI/HIV program, also under the Bannuar Iti Salun-At Award.
 
Based on the award, the CHO also attained the highest number of screened key population under the program.
 
Finally, Dagupan City clinched the Bannuar Iti Salun-At Award Best Covid-19 Vaccination Implementation for its contribution in attaining the targets for the Covid-19 vaccine deployment and vaccination campaign.
 
The city reached the PinasLakas targets of at least 30% first booster coverage among the general population and 90% fully vaccinated senior citizens, according to the award.
 
City Health Officer Dr. Ophelia Rivera received the awards on behalf of Mayor Belen Fernandez, even as she extended her gratitude to the DOH-CHD-1 headed by Regional Director Paula Paz Sydiongco for the honor bestowed to Dagupan City.
 
Dr. Rivera thanked Mayor Fernandez for the trust and support to the CHO and to all health heroes in Dagupan City.
 
Aside from six awards signed by Director Sydiongco, the DOH-CHD-1 awarded P100,000 cash prize to Dagupan City.
 
Mayor Fernandez has put healthcare as a top priority program beginning from her first term as local chief executive until present to promote the overall wellbeing of Dagupeños. (JCR/AMB/PIA Pangasinan)
