BANGUED, Abra(PIA) -- The Department of Science and Technology (DOST)-Abra continues to reach out to more schools across the province giving learners better access to various information even without internet connection.
Three sets of Science and Technology Academic and Research-Based Openly-Operated Kiosk Stations (STARBOOKS) were recently turned over to three public schools in the province namely Malapaao Elementary Schools, Quillat ES and Mabungtot ES in Langiden.
DOST-Abra Provincial Director Ralf Sapi-il said that the STARBOOKS aims to upgrade the learning tools of students in geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas. It is a stand-alone information kiosk designed to reach those with limited or no access to S&T information resources without Internet connection. It brings access to information with thousands of digitized science and technology resources in various formats for teachers and learners in far-flung communities.
He explained that the schools were the identified beneficiaries under the Community Empowerment Thru Science and Technology (CEST) Program of the agency for year 2022.
“Since malayo po ang mga schools na ito, they are selected as beneficiaries to receive sets of Starbooks under the CEST Program of DOST,” Sapi-il said.
During the turn-over program, Science Education Program Supervisor of Abra Schools Division Office Bhenjo Agaloos expressed gratitude to the government for this innovation that allows learners access to thousands of materials through technology.
“We are indeed receiving a lot of assistance from the DOST so we are deeply grateful for all the projects that you are giving to the schools. I believe that these Starbooks will give an advantage for our students with its up-to-date contents,” Agaloos said. (JDP/CAGT – PIA CAR, Abra)
