DOTr gives green light to RFID interoperability

CALAMBA CITY, (PIA) — Good news for motorists using radio frequency identification (RFID) tags in expressways as the Department of Transportation (DOTr) has announced the interoperability of the Easytrip tags to Autosweep-only tollways.

The DOTr said that upon registration, those with Easytrip tags may now use Skyway Stages 1-3, South Luzon Expressway (SLEX), Ninoy Aquino International Airport Expressway (NAIAX), Muntinlupa-Cavite Expressway (MCX), Southern Tagalog Arterial Road (STAR) Tollway, and Tarlac–Pangasinan–La Union Expressway (TPLEX).

The RFID registration sites include offices of SKYWAY, SLEX, STAR Tollway, TPLEX, C5; various gasoline stations which include Petron Commerce, Petron Dasmarinas, Petron La Vista, Shell Magallanes, Petron KM 44 NB, Petron San Pedro, Petron Lipa, Petron Malvar, Petron Pura SB, Petron Pura NB, and toll exits such as Calamba CSC, SLEX Greenfields, Southwoods NB, Sta Rosa NB, Mamplasan SB, Star Toll Lipa CSC, and RFID TPLEX Office.

Easytrip RFID can only be used previously at select expressways such as North Luzon Expressway (NLEX), Subic Clark Tarlac Expressway (SCTEX), Cavite Expressway (CAVITEX), C5 Link Flyover and Cavite-Laguna Expressway (CALAX).

With the new interoperability system, RFID users can just use one RFID system instead of two, and they can now travel seamlessly without delays.

According to DOTr, the only requirements needed for the enrollment of RFID stickers is one valid ID, the vehicle to be registered, and the initial load amount of P200-500.

Easytrip RFID users with existing Autosweep RFID stickers may no longer need to register, the department said. (CH/PIA-Laguna)
