BAYOMBONG, Nueva Vizcaya (PIA) - -  Employees of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) and villagers of Barangay Vista Alegre here recently conducted a River Clean – Up in support of the Zero Waste Month celebration.

Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Officer Giovannie Magat said the collaborative activity resulted to the collection of at least  20 sacks of solid wastes along the Magat River.

“Most of the wastes collected were plastic bottles, plastic wrappers, cans, tin foils, diapers and cigarette butts. These were segregated prior to transporting to the material recovery facilities,” he said.

Magat said the Clean-Up Drive was initiated by the DENR-PENRO Nueva Vizcaya in partnership with the barangay officials and villagers of barangay Vista Alegre.

Barangay Captain Pepito Sebbey thanked the DENR for leading the activity to encourage their  villagers practice solid waste management especially along the riverbank.

The DENR also conducted information campaign activities in various elementary schools in Dupax  del Norte  to educate the youth on proper waste segregation and disposal including the distribution of  printed materials under the Zero Waste Month celebration. (OTB/BME/PIA NVizcaya)
