DOLE awards starter kits to displaced jeepney drivers, operators

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan (PIA) - - At least 30 displaced jeepney drivers and operators affected by the PUV Modernization Program in Nueva Vizcaya recently received P900,000 worth of livelihood starter kits from the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) in partnership with the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB), Local Government Unit of Aritao and Office of Transportation Cooperatives (OTC).

The livelihood starter kits include rice retailing, vulcanizing, auto and motorcycle change oil services, baking and pastry, organic vegetable crop production and selling, carpentry/furniture shop services and auto shop servicing.

Elizabeth U. Martinez, provincial director of DOLE – Nueva Vizcaya Field Office, said that the starter kits received are examples of good governance convergence effort of the LTFRB, OTC, LGU Aritao and DOLE.

In his message, Reynaldo Lavaro Jr., chairman of Bambang Bayombong Aritao Solano Sta. Fe Transport Cooperative, thanked the implementing agencies for the starter kits that they have received.

“Malaking tulong po ito para sa aming lahat. Sa aking mga kasamahan, mag-sipag tayo para lumago itong ating mga natanggap. (These would be helpful to all of us. To my companions, let us work harder to develop more these assistance we received),” Lavaro said.

Meanwhile, DOLE also provided Business and Work Improvement Course training to the beneficiaries which includes lectures on Entrepreneurship, Productivity, Simple Bookkeeping and Workshop and Occupational Safety and Health to aid them in the proper management of their livelihood project.
