Mayor Fabic encourages youth to take part in saving Mother Earth

ODIONGAN, Romblon (PIA) -- "We have a moral obligation to do what we can for our community and this Earth," these were the words of Odiongan Mayor Trina Firmalo-Fabic when she attended as keynote speaker of the 12th SAVE Me Movement National Convention on Climate Change and Disaster Risk Reduction Management held in Romblon State University, Odiongan, Romblon on January 27.

During her address, Mayor Fabic, who is also an environmental planner by profession, encourages at least 236 participants from different universities in the Philippines to do what they can to save the planet.

"We have to work to do something if you want a good life for ourselves. Kung mag-aantay pa kayo para sa bukas para gumalaw, baka wala nang matirang mundo para sa inyo. You must be invested in society today if you wish a good future for yourselves," Fabic said.

She added that it is also noteworthy to advocate for other countries and multi-national corporation to do their part as well in order for everything to be sustainable.

"Alam niyo po ang Pilipinas, we maybe the fourth country of the most vulnerable to climate change in the world, pero we make up less than 1% of greenhouse gas emissions. Maliit po ang impact natin o ang carbon footprint compare to other countries and multi-national corporations," the mayor said.

The mayor also shared the eco-friendly and best practices of LGU Odiongan during her administration including the "Trash in a Bottle" program that will be relaunched with a new name next month.

The three-day event will be a forum for sharing ideas and best practices from the academe, the local government units, and communities, locally and internationally for research and knowledge creation and information dissemination, local and international. (PJF/PIA MIMAROPA)
