Pres. Marcos to grace DSWD’s 72nd Anniversary

QUEZON CITY, (PIA) – President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. is set to grace the Department of Social Welfare & Development’s (DSWD’s) 72nd anniversary celebration on Tuesday, January 31, 2023 at the Agency’s Central Office in Batasan Road, Quezon City.

During his visit, the President is also expected to lead the inauguration of the Agency’s new multi-purpose building along with Vice President Sara Duterte and DSWD Officer-in-charge, Secretary Edu Punay.

As part of its anniversary celebration, the DSWD has partnered with various national government agencies for the One-Stop-Shop Serbilis On-the-Go!

The activity aims to provide a venue for DSWD Central Office personnel, their relatives, and institutional service contractors to conveniently access other government frontline services within the doorstep of the Department.

During the opening of the activity, the DSWD invited the Commission on Elections (COMELEC), led by Chair George Erwin Garcia, to showcase their Register Anywhere Project (RAP).

The RAP is an ongoing voter registration project of the COMELEC allowing for the reactivation of voter’s records, transfer of voter’s information, and enrolment for first time voters.

Other participating government service providers present in the One-Stop-Shop Serbilis On-the-Go! Include the Government Service Insurance System; Philippine Statistics Authority; Philippine Identification System; Land Transportation Office; National Bureau of Investigation; and, Professional Regulation Commission.

It can be recalled that in his first State of the Nation Address (SONA), President Marcos laid out his agenda which included his intent to decrease the poverty rate of the country to a single-digit percentage by the year 2028.

In line with the President’s directive, the DSWD expressed that it had already taken initial steps to achieve the directives of the President, particularly on ensuring that families and individuals affected by disasters and crises are provided with appropriate and immediate assistance.

The Department also stressed that it will adhere to the President’s directive to enhance the implementation of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) by facilitating the graduation of the beneficiaries who have improved their standard of living and are no longer considered poor. With the near completion of the Listahanan 3, the DSWD will be able to review and validate its list of beneficiaries.

The Agency also vowed to contribute to the roadmap presented by the current administration so that all Filipinos will have better and equitable access to opportunities given by the government. (pia-ncr)
