95 Tabuk farmers finish rice seeds production course

CITY OF TABUK, Kalinga (PIA) -- Ninety-five farmers here completed the 17-day course on quality inbred rice seeds production and farm mechanization under the Rice Competitiveness Enhancement Fund-Farmer Field School (RCEF-FFS) program.

The 95 also trained on pre-post-harvest management and farm machinery operation during the field training at the Bacayan Rice-based Integrated Farm.

The training was sponsored by the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA)-Kalinga, Agricultural Technology Institute (ATI)-Cordillera and provincial and city local governments.

TESDA Provincial Director Victor Brioso considered the training as gift from the national government and urged the farmer-graduates to share their learning to fellow farmers.

The more farmers are taught with improved technology, the higher the rice production level of the province will become, Brioso stressed.

Meanwhile, Enrique Baliang from the city-LGU said farmers’ trainings are under the continuing intervention provided to farmers who comprise the largest sector of the city’s economy. He said similar activities are set in other farm areas of the city this quarter. (JDP/LL-PIA CAR, Kalinga)
