BAGUIO CITY (PIA) -- The Cordillera Regional Peace and Order Council (RPOC) affirmed their support to Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong amid accusations that the local chief executive is a supporter of the communist terrorist group (CTG).
The RPOC passed on January 17, 2023 Resolution No. 01 Series of 2023 expressing strong support to Magalong and further affirming his nomination as chairperson of the said council.
"The Council is vouching on the loyalty, uprightness, credibility and integrity of Mayor Magalong as a public official and that he is not an enemy of the State," the resolution stated.
In leading RPOC and the Regional Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (RTF-ELCAC), Magalong has consistently demonstrated good governance, and strongly advocated and opposed the existence and activities of the CTGs.
"Magalong has always shown loyalty to the Filipino people and likewise, consistently demonstrated good governance, and strongly advocated and opposed the existence and activities of CTGs," the RPOC members stated in their resolution.
Due to the mayor's unfailing demonstration of loyalty, diligence, passion, integrity and his unwavering support to all programs, projects, and activities of the RPOC and RTF-ELCAC, he is again unanimously endorsed to President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to chair the Cordillera RPOC for 2022-2025.
The Council enumerated in the resolution the passage and approval of eight Cordillera RPOC resolutions during Magalong's term as chairperson of the RPOC l and as Vice-Chairperson of the Cordillera RTF-ELCAC.
It also cited that through Magalong's initiative, the Sangguniang Panlungsod of Baguio City on January 20, 2020 passed a resolution adopting the Articles of Declaration Against Armed Conflict to support the vision of a lasting peace, people's participation in governance through peaceful means, and the respect of all kinds of political ideologies within the framework, and declaring the CPP-NPA-NDF, its officers and members for as long as they support and advocate armed struggle to overthrow existing government system and all other armed groups that are engaged in terrorist activities as Persona Non Grata.
