LAOAG CITY, Ilocos Norte (PIA) – The Laoag City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) will be strictly implementing waste segregation and disposal at the Barangay Calayab beach to lessen plastic garbage littering at the beachfront.
According to CENRO Mylene Pascual, this is a part of their agenda to make the city more environment-friendly for 2023.
“We are reminding those who will be visiting Calayab beach to practice segregation and proper disposal of waste. Lalo na yung mga plastic na ginamit nilang kainan, huwag nilang ikalat kung saan. Rather, ilagay ito sa tamang basurahan or better yet, i-recycle ang mga ito,” she advised.
Guided by Republic Act 9003 or the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act, CENRO will mobilize resort owners and barangay officials to continuously monitor their areas, remind beachgoers to pick up their waste, and segregate their garbage before it is collected then disposed at the Brgy. Balatong Sanitary Landfill.
Pascual added that they will continue to conduct information dissemination on waste segregation and distribute composing buckets in different barangays in the city.
“This will be a part of our plan to make Laoag a model for environmental protection. We’ve already implemented the strict waste disposal for food vendors, the no plastic ordinance in the public market. So now, we are including our tourist attractions, starting with Calayab beach,” Pascual said. (JCR/MJTAB/EJFG, PIA Ilocos Norte)
