ILOILO CITY (PIA) -- Pupils, teachers and guardians of the Day Care Center of Barangay Ungka, Jaro in Iloilo City performed the "Duck, Cover and Hold" as well as evacuation procedures, March 9, for this year's first quarter Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill (NSED).
According to Darwin Joemil Papa of the Iloilo City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO), this is the first face-to-face earthquake drill conducted since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Iloilo City was chosen as one of the pilot areas in the conduct of NSED in the region.
During the evacuation, pupils were seen forming a line and covering their heads while walking to an open space of the Ungka Terminal.
The drill was observed and assessed by evaluators coming from the different concerned government agenices and private volunteer groups to determine the readiness of Ungka residents, including preschoolers, during earthquakes.
The Iloilo CDRRMO led the ceremonial pressing of the buzzer button that marked the start of the tremor simulation. (AAL/EJB PIA6)
