MSMEs, start-ups urged to avail crowdfunding options

CEBU CITY, Cebu, March 17 (PIA) -- SEC-licensed crowdfunding intermediaries have encouraged micro, small, and medium enterprises, as well as start-ups businesses, to utilize the means of crowdfunding as a financing alternative for raising capital needed for business formation and operational expansion.

These crowdfunding intermediaries offer various capital-based products and services that aim to assist businesses in forming capital and expanding their operations.

During the SEC Roadshow on Capital Formation held in Cebu City on March 17, executives from Investree Philippines, Seedin Technology, Inc., and Eastern Securities Development Corporation (Round One) presented their respective crowdfunding platforms as a capital-raising tool for businesses.

They also conducted personalized consultations with the MSMEs' owners who attended the activity regarding the financing processes and other relevant investment information.

According to the SEC, as of December 2022, there were over 200 businesses that had successfully raised capital through the platforms offered by the said crowdfunding intermediaries.

Crowdfunding is one of the financing platforms promoted by the SEC as a viable capital financing option for MSMEs and start-ups.

It involves the pooling of funds from a large number of individuals who offer equity or rewards in exchange for an individual’s contribution.

The process is being done through online platforms. (RGC/PIA7 Cebu)
