SABANGAN, Mountain Province (PIA)-- Sabangan’s Gagayam Festival made a comeback after three years of break due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Bearing the theme, “Moments of Rekindling, Reliving and Enriching our Cultural Practices Leading Us Onwards as One,” this year’s festival kicked off on March 20 with a parade and street dancing followed by various performances by delegates from the different barangays of the municipality depicting cultural practices.
In his welcome address, Mayor Marcial C. Lawilao Jr said the purpose of this Gagayam is to unite for the betterment of the community, for the progress of Sabangan.
“Our celebration showcases the beautiful culture of the various barangays. This is the Gagayam that we should continuously show and there would be no reason for Sabangan not to be happy and progressive” Lawilao said.
Department of Health Undersecretary Dr. Enrique A. Tayag who was the guest speaker during the opening program said the Gagayam Festival is not only a time for celebration but also a time for the people to support the efforts of the government to make the community stronger and to achieve greater things.
