QUEZON CITY, (PIA) --The familiarization tour, a program of the Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA) is back after its suspension at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic starting 2020.
On Thursday, March 23, the LRTA accommodated some 109 engineering students of Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University (DMMMSU) for the Fam Tour at the LRT- 2 Depot at Santolan in Pasig City.
The Fam Tour is a program of the LRTA since 2005 that caters to educational institutions interested in providing firsthand exposure to their students on the technical, mechanical and operational workings of the light rail line.
Its inception into a program was in response to the clamor of educational institutions to allow them to bring their students for a guided tour in the facilities of the LRTA.
The Fam Tour educates students on the history and how LRT-2 provides safe, efficient and affordable transport service. It may include actual visit at the Operations Control Center, Workshop, Stabling Area, and a train ride.
As a program, the LRTA accepts request from educational institutions, and even organizations, for the scheduled tour with prior arrangement of the details of the visit with the rail line management.
In the first Fam Tour after the three-year suspension, the DMMMSU students, accompanied by their instructors, took a short trip down memory lane on the history of railways in the Philippines. They also toured LRT-2’s Operations Control Center, Workshop and Stabling Area.
Afterwards, the students were made to board the train from Santolan Station to Antipolo Station and back. (lrta/pia-ncr)
