DOLE Isabela Provincial Director Evelyn Yango said the identified displaced transport workers were affected by the government’s Public Utility Vehicle Modernization Program (PUVMP) from the municipalities of Burgos, Gamu, Jones, Reina Mercedes, San Manuel, San Mateo, Tumauini and from the Cities of Ilagan, Cauayan and Santiago.
She said the project’s objective aims to help the affected stakeholders of the (PUVMP) and to give them a social safety net and employment opportunities through a livelihood assistance package in order to provide them stable sources of income outside the public transportation sector.
Yango said the joint undertaking of DOLE and DOTr through the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) and the Office of Transportation Cooperative.
“We are banking on the support of our partner agencies to monitor the implementation of these livelihood projects to ensure the project’s smooth implementation and generate income in order to cushion the impact of the transportation modernization program,” Yango said.
The 63 transport workers recently received Bigasan and other livelihood starter kits through the Department of Labor and Employment - Isabela Field Office (DOLE-IFO). (OTB/MGE/PIA Isabela)
