Jail visit returns to normal in Borongan City Jail

BORONGAN CITY (PIA) –  Visiting Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDL) is back to normal in Borongan City District Jail (BCDJ), Brgy. Songco, this city.

“As usual, there is a schedule to be followed for the visitors who wanted to visit their loved ones. For those who are going to visit face-to-face, there should be a vaccination card to be presented to attest that he or she is vaccinated,” Jail Inspector Neil Ana said.

He said there is also the so-called conjugal visit for couple but they should present their documents that they are married couple.

Ana said there is no visit is allowed on Mondays and Fridays, only on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays.

He further said that BCDJ is one of the clustered district jails wherein the municipalities covered are Taft, Sulat, San Julian, Borongan City, Maydolong, Balangkayan, Llorente, and Hernani.

He added that the Municipal Trial Court (MTC) cases which have commitment of the said municipalities, the PDL will be brought to BCDJ.

“If often, clustered municipalities who have MTC cases, they can also bring to BCDJ but it will depend on the Judge to where the PDL is brought, to BCDJ or Provincial Jail.

Ana said that when there was already a ruling by the court for the final judgment of cases but the sentence is only maximum of three years imprisonment, he or she wil serve only in the BCDJ.

If more than three years of his/her final judgment or the “Reclusion Perpetua”, the convicted PDL will be brought to the Abuyog Penal Colony as “Insular Prisoner”.

In connection to this, Inspector Ana said it’s better if the jail system in Eastern Samar is streamlined, so that there is only one policy to be followed.

As of now, Inspector Ana disclosed that there are 65 detainees in the BCDJ with cases of heinous crimes, such as murder, frustrated murder, drug cases, rape, theft wherein they are still undergoing hearing or trial.

Out of the 65 detainees, four are females, 61 are males, and of the four females, two are former rebels. (MMP/SDC/PIA-E. Samar with Pen Pomida/DYES-RP)
