KAPATIRAN to get aid from Negros Occ. government

NEGROS OCCIDENTAL (PIA) -- Governor Eugenio Lacson said the provincial government will seek ways to provide assistance to members of the Kapatiran Para sa Progresong Panlipunan (KAPATIRAN) during the Provincial Peace and Order Site Coordinating Team at the provincial Social Hall.

He said more than 700 families or about 1,500 individuals make up the Revolutionary Proletarian Army-Alex Boncayao Brigade (RPM-P/RPA/ABB) entered into a peace pact with the government in the year 2000.

They later organized themselves into KAPATIRAN and registered it with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).

According to Lacson, his office will look for ways to assist the members of the group with livelihood projects suitable for their background as former rebels.

Initially, Lacson said their children will be considered for scholarships and KAPATIRAN members and their dependents to be enrolled in the Negros Occidental Health Care Program (NOCHP).

During the meeting, it was learned that in the previous years, the provincial government had already extended various relief programs for the

KAPTIRAN that included livestock raising and production, crop production, seedling distribution, provision of rice and stuff assistance, and small business management training.

In addition, the group will also receive assistance from Provincial Peace and Order Council member agencies, Lacson noted.  (AAL/Lljr/PIA6 Negros Occidental)
