Iloilo to craft career guidance, counseling module

ILOILO CITY (PIA) –-  The Iloilo provincial government is gearing up for the creation of a career guidance and counseling module that helps address the problem of job mismatch and respond to the human resource needs of the country.

Gov. Arthur Defensor Jr. has tapped the Department of Education (DepEd) 6 and key agencies to formulate the module which will also guide secondary students to make intelligent decisions in choosing a career based on the National Career Assessment Examination (NCAE).

Through this module, these students will further be educated on the national and local development plans and the government’s labor requirement.

The module is part of Defensor’s Bulig Eskwela sang Probinsya (BES Probins) Program.

It is also a localization of Republic Act 11206 or the Career Guidance and Counseling Act which the governor authored when he was still a member of the House of Representatives.

Defensor emphasized the value of helping students to ensure that college graduates meet the requirements of the government, industry, and the economy.

He said a better educational system leads to a more productive population.

“That is what we are addressing right now. It depends on what kind of human resource the educational system creates. What we are doing is a human resource development project,” the governor said, adding that Iloilo will be the first to implement this type of career guidance module among secondary schools.

A workshop along with partner agencies will also be held for the crafting of the module.

“We will pioneer the indoctrination of the students on the direction of the country,” Defensor stressed. (AAL/LMLE/PIA Iloilo/Capitol PR)
