Valenzuela offers free sports courses in #PamilyangValenzuelano Summer Sports Camp

QUEZON CITY, (PIA) – The local government of Valenzuela is inviting all sports enthusiasts and aspiring players in the city to register in the #PamilyangValenzuelano Summer Sports Camp to learn various sporting activities for free until June.

The program is mainly anchored on the promotion of a healthy and active lifestyle among Valenzuelano youth as well as maximizing their learning potentials especially to those who aspire to excel in the field of sports, the city government explained.

“Sa Lungsod Valenzuela, ang paglinang sa mga kakayahan ng kabataang Valenzuelano ay mahalaga! (In Valenzuela City, harnessing the potential of Valenzuelano youth is important)” said Mayor Wes Gatchalian.

The sports camp also gives an opportunity for the aspiring players to train and prepare for the national or local sporting competitions that they want to participate in.

A variety of sports courses are offered in the said camp including lawn tennis, basketball, taekwondo, judo, karate, chess, table tennis, arnis, obstacle sports, badminton, pickleball, sepak takraw, futsal, and volleyball for both boys and girls.

The first training session of the sports camp transpired on May 6 at the WES Arena in Barangay Punturin.

On May 21, the local government also shared that the youth participants of the camp learned the Relay Obstacle Course Racing at the Valenzuela City Sports Park in Barangay Wawang Pulo where athlete Ahgie Radan trained.

Radan is a Valenzuela athlete who recently bagged a Gold Medal in the Men’s Team Relay Obstacle Course Racing event of the 32nd Southeast Asian (SEA) Games that was held in Cambodia from May 5 to 17.

Fernando Casares of Barangay Wawang Pulo also delivered a gold medal for his city and country in the Men’s Individual Triathlon category of the SEA Games.

Meanwhile, Noelito Jose Jr. of Barangay Dalandanan clinched a silver medal in Men’s Individual Epee.

On the other hand, three Valenzuela athletes were likewise able to take home bronze medals that contributed to the country’s Top 5 placement in the international multi-sport event.

These are Ian Patrick Gurrobat (Barangay Gen. T. De Leon) for Mixed Show Jiu-Jitsu, Jessica Canabal (Barangay Gen. T. De Leon) for Female Bantamweight Taekwondo, and Sean Levyn Panganiban (Barangay Gen. T. De Leon) for Mixed Team Judo.

The victory that these athletes achieved in their respective sports not only brought glory and pride to Valenzuela but also a sense of motivation to continue supporting the aspirations of its youth population.

The local government announced on Sunday, May 21, that a Valenzuela Olympics will be launched this coming June 2023 to champion the athletic prowess of Valenzuelano youth. (PIA-NCR)
