Guv sets 2024 to clear Davao Oriental of illegal drugs

CITY OF MATI, Davao Oriental (PIA) - - Governor Corazon Malanyaon targets to clear the province of Davao Oriental of illegal drugs by 2024.

During the 2nd Quarter Meeting of the Provincial Anti-Drug Abuse Council (PADAC) in Mati City, Malanyaon expressed her intentions to converge all sectors towards eradicating illegal drugs in the province.

In support of the governor’s vision, PADAC Action Officer Brigadier General Leopoldo Imbang, Jr. (Ret) said the Council will adopt a whole-of-nation approach to handle the province’s illicit drug problem.

Imbang added that the approach would bring together local government units,

national government agencies, the private sector, and other concerned sectors to develop the best feasible strategy for dealing the issue, as a whole.

In the latest report of the Provincial Police for Barangay Drug Clearing Operations, six out of 11 municipalities in the province achieved 100% on illegal drug cleared barangays.

Along with the convergence, Malanyaon also directed the authorities to ramp-up anti-illegal drugs operations to focus also on the major players in the illegal narcotic industry in the province.

“We must catch the ‘big fishes’ also to put a stop to this dilemma,” Malanyaon said.

The governor suggested this after she observed that mostly small drug offenders are being apprehended and detained. (MLU/PIA Davao Oriental/Photo by DavOr PIO)
