PLGU, LGU Virac intensify emergency response through ICS training

As part of its efforts to strengthen emergency response and minimize damage to property and possible loss of lives, the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) and the Local Government Unit of Virac spearheaded Incident Command System (ICS) Executive Course training recently.

On May 16, Tuesday, the Provincial Local Government Unit of Catanduanes thru PDRRMO,  in collaboration with the Office of the Civil Defense V conducted a whole-day training at Twin Rock Beach Resort.

Pursuant to Republic Act 10121 or the Philippine Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Act, the Office of Civil Defense has been tasked to formulate standard operating procedures for coordination through the ICS.

Governor Joseph C. Cua, who was among the participants said that the ICS Executive Course aims to develop the skills, and attitude that are essential for the application of basic concepts of ICS in any disaster situation.

He added that the island province hopes to cultivate a resilient and well-prepared community capable of effectively addressing and mitigating the impact of future emergencies by empowering disaster management leaders through the ICS Executive Course.

As part of the commitment of OCD 5 in capacitating the local government units (LGUs) in disaster risk reduction and management (DRRM), the OCD5 Operations Section and Municipal DRRM Office (MDRRMO) of Virac spearheaded the Incident Command System (ICS) Executive Course last May 15,  at Rakdell Inn, Virac, Catanduanes.

A total of 40 individuals successfully completed the training, during which they were imparted with the essential knowledge pertaining to the application of general concepts and principles of Incident Command System (ICS) from a managerial perspective.

OCD5 course monitors;  Akim S Berces, Chief of Operations, and Julius Christopher B Arroyo, ICT Unit Head, were joined by ICS instructors from PDRRMO Camarines Sur, Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) and Philippine National Police (PNP). They were also assisted by facilitators from PDRRMO Masbate and MDRRMO Virac. (EAB-PIA5/Catanduanes)
