CEBU CITY, Cebu, May 26 (PIA) – President Ferdinand “Bongbong” R. Marcos, Jr. will lead the grand launching of Pier 88, Cebu’s first “Smart Port” in Brgy. Poblacion, Liloan, Cebu on May 27.
The major project, which is funded by a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) arrangement, is a joint venture by the local government of Liloan and Topline Group of Companies in partnership with Pier 88 ventures Inc.
As a smart port, it will integrate digital technology in its operations by using QR codes and a radio frequency identification-ready (RFID) system to be integrated in a mobile application, providing passengers convenience while traveling.
Port facilities and services of Pier88 will also include the following: Ramps for berthing, Mooring Dolphins, Pedestrian Bollards, Pier Bridge and Deck, Truck Weighing Scale, Storage, Cargo Handling, Trucking, Arrastre, Porterate, Stevedoring, Leisure and Island Hopping terminal, Shuttle, and Banking Services.
A couple of brand new Topline Seabus passenger vessels equipped with state-of-the-art engines will officially establish trips from Liloan to Cebu City and Liloan to Lapu-Lapu City and vice versa.
The Topline Seabus passenger vessel can accommodate 150 passengers and will be able to serve commuters from Bohol, Camotes Islands, Leyte, and Metro Cebu.
Aside from providing another means of transportation, Pier 88 Port will also serve as an economic catalyst not only for Liloan but also the neighboring municipality of Compostela, City of Danao, and the rest of northern Cebu.
Expected to join the President are House Speaker Martin Romualdez, Secretary of the Department of Tourism Christina Frasco, Deputy Speaker Vincent Franco "Duke" Frasco, and Cebu Gov. Gwen Garcia. (MYP/PIA7)
