Security forces want public unity amid creation of Task Force Marawi

MARAWI CITY, Lanao del Sur (PIA)--Security forces are currently calling for the oneness and involvement of the whole citizenry amidst the creation of the Task Force Marawi, which has been named to head the sustainability and fostering of peace and order in this city.

103rd Infantry “Haribon” Brigade Commanding Officer BGen. Yegor Rey Barroquillo Jr. underlined that although the named task force was also established to support the rehabilitation and reconstruction of the locality here while ensuring that residents are protected, it is still vital for the general public to show their support through engaging appropriately in the campaign against lawlessness to attain lasting stability.

He conveyed that this is because security issues will never be a concern of the law enforcers alone, rather, it should be a responsibility to be shared by everyone.

“Ito [achieve peace] ay magagawa lang natin kapag tayong lahat ay nagtutulong-tulong. Hindi po kaya ng Philippine Army lang, Philippine National Police, at nila mayor. Dapat sama-sama,” said Barroquillo.

(This [achieve peace] can only be done when all of us will help one another. This cannot be done by just the Philippine Army, Philippine National Police, and the mayor. We should all be one.)

Lanao del Sur Police Provincial Office Deputy Provincial Director PLtCol. Juanito Jamis affirmed this, adding that the populace could aid in promoting fast response to emergencies, especially when it could feed necessary information to the security sector about the presence of individuals or groups causing chaos in their respective areas.

He particularly solicited support from traditional and religious leaders, partner agencies, and stakeholders as they would move forward with the challenge to combat illegal drugs, gambling, and other forms of criminalities.

“Ating minimithi ang isang tahimik na pamumuhay at matiwasay na komunidad na malayo sa karahasan na siya nating makakamit sa pamamagitan ng pagtutulungan ng isa't-isa,” said Jamis.

(Our goal is to have a quiet living and peaceful community that is far from violence, which we can only achieve through helping one another.)

Backing the desire of the security forces, Mayor Majul Gandamra highlighted the core essence of unity which has been the major reason why the city was able to gradually bounce back from the adversities brought about by the firefight in 2017 and the coronavirus disease (COVID)-19 pandemic.

With this, he encouraged his constituents to rally their efforts behind the Task Force Marawi and gear towards clinching betterment through nurturing peace and order.

“Bilang alkalde ng Marawi City, ang tangi kong panalangin ay ang para sa kaunlaran at kapayapaan ng ating mahal na lungsod sa pamamagitan ninyong lahat. Hindi lang ang Task Force Marawi, kung hindi ang buong mamamayan ng Marawi City,” said Gandamra.

(As the chief executive of Marawi City, my only prayer is to have development and peace in our beloved city and that is through all of you. Not just of the Task Force Marawi but of the entire communities in Marawi City.) (CRG/PIA-10/Lanao del Sur)
