CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY (PIA)--The Office of Civil Defense (OCD)-10, together with the member agencies of the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (RDRRMC)-10, started the celebration of National Disaster Resilience Month (NDRM) through its "Run for Resiliency" Fun Run, July 1.
"This fun run is the kick-off of activity for the month-long celebration of National Disaster Resilience Month, which is conducted not just in Northern Mindanao but in all the regions in the country today. The main purpose of this activity is to bring our communities’ consciousness about building resilience in the community," OCD-10 Regional Director Antonio B. Sugarol shared.
Participated by around five hundred runners coming from forty-four member agencies and free runners, the opening salvo of the celebration was considered a success as the RDRRMC-10 attained its target participants while also garnering public attention.
As a strong start to the month-long celebration of the NDRM, the RDRRMC-10 hopes to boost the public’s awareness of the importance of disaster preparedness and resiliency.
With the month of July being National Disaster Resilience Month, formerly known as National Disaster Consciousness Month, through Executive Order No. 29 series of 2017, the OCD-10 is set to spearhead various activities relevant to building disaster resilience covering the four thematic areas of disaster, such as disaster prevention and mitigation, disaster preparedness, disaster response, and disaster rehabilitation and recovery.
