Diskwento rice caravan in Iligan City provides affordable rice to residents

ILIGAN CITY (PIA)--To provide much-needed relief to the residents here, a Diskwento Rice Caravan was held at the City Public Plaza, spearheaded by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Lanao del Norte, in collaboration with the Local Price Coordinating Council and the office of City Councilor Lawyer Marlene Young.

This initiative aimed to make affordable rice accessible to the public with significant support from the National Food Authority (NFA) and Soda Enterprises Incorporated, which offered discounted rice prices during the caravan.

NFA offered 500 packs of 5 kilograms each sold at P25 per kilo, while Soda Enterprises Inc. also sold rice, including special and premium rice varieties, at discounted prices.

Jane Marie Tabucan, provincial director of DTI Lanao del Norte, emphasized the importance of this initiative in addressing the current rice-related challenges.

"I hope maka-avail ta kay dili ni siya kada-adlaw ingon-ani nga mahitabo nga incentive. I hope i-take advantage ni ninyo [I hope we can avail of this because it's not every day that such an incentive happens. I hope you take advantage of it]," she said.

Meanwhile, Presco Medrano from Barangay Pala-O expressed his gratitude, highlighting how the caravan helped low-income individuals in the city.

The Philippine Army and the Philippine National Police also ensured security and safety in the area. (LELA/PIA-10/Lanao del Norte)
