Tabuk City joins nationwide tree planting

CITY OF TABUK, Kalinga PIA) – Employees of the city local government led by the City Local Government Operations Office joined the nationwide tree planting with the theme 'Buhayin ang Pangangalaga ng Kalikasan" last September 13.

The group  planted 25 balete tree seedlings and 25 fire tree seedlings at the city sanitary landfill site in Barangay Dilag.

The site at  the city landfill facility was chosen to help control future pollution problem.

The City-LGU Environment and Natural Resources Office provided calautit tree, fire tree, fruit tree and other tree seedlings   to barangays for the simultaneous activity.

This event marked the 1st Nationwide Simultaneous Tree Planting Anniversary spearheaded by the Department of  the Interior and Local Government  as the country’s support to the global action to mitigate climate change effects, and a reminder to the people of their roles in the care and protection of mother earth.

It also  coincided with the city’s commemoration of the Mount Data Peace Accord (Sipat) between President Corazon C. Aquino and Condrado Balweg of Cordillera People’s Liberation Army at Mt. Data Hotel in Bauko, Mountain  Province on Sept. 13, 1986 that signaled the cessation of hostilities  between the military and the group in the area and  led to the creation of the Cordillera Administrative Region in preparation for an autonomous region in the the Cordillera( JDP/LL-PIA CAR, Kalinga)
