1st Metro Iloilo-Guimaras investment forum in to attract strategic investors

ILOILO CITY (PIA6) -- The 1st Metro Iloilo-Guimaras investment forum to be held on Nov. 20, 2023 at Conrad Manila Hotel in Pasay City aims to attract strategic investors, noting that Metro Iloilo-Guimaras area is one of the largest and significant economic centers in the Visayas.

Organized by the Metro Iloilo-Guimaras Economic Development Council (MIGEDC) in partnership with the Iloilo Economic Development Foundation (ILEDF), the investment forum anchored to theme, "Discover Metro Iloilo-Guimaras: Invest. Grow. Expand", will gather speakers from the private sector and local governments; and it will showcase investable areas and industry prospects in tourism, healthcare, manufacturing, ICT-BPM, logistics, and real estate, among others.

Expected to attend are invited leaders from different business organizations, diplomats of embassies in the Philippines, and top executives of conglomerates and corporations; while Ryan Washburn, United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Country Director to the Philippines, Pacific Islands, and Mongolia will serve as the keynote speaker. Former Senator Franklin M. Drilon will also grace the event to give his message of support to MIGEDC’s investment promotion initiatives.

The MIGEDC is also calling on other investors to attend the event as the Metro Guimaras-Iloilo serves as a "bustling hub of industry and trade activities supported by incentives, port facilities, telecommunication infrastructure, utilities, agriculture, banking and finance, retail trading, and real estate."

The MIGEDC, which was established in 2006, is an inter-local government cooperation initiative to promote private sector-led and market-driven growth. It forms the regional hub with highly urbanized Iloilo City; the island province of Guimaras; the agro-industrial center of Pavia, and the municipalities of Cabatuan, Leganes, Oton, San Miguel, and Santa Barbara in Iloilo province.

Meanwhile, Iloilo City Mayor Jerry P. Trenas, in a statement, stressed that bringing the investments

outside Iloilo City will provide strategic opportunity and overall development in the community.

“As economic developments are moving beyond the borders of Iloilo City, the Metro Iloilo-Guimaras alliance invites investors to look into the growing economy of these areas for it provides a strategic opportunity to grow their investment and contribute to overall development," Trenas who is also the the chairperson of the MIGEDC said.

ILEDF chariman Engr. Terence S. Uygongco, on the other hand, said that the business climate is conducive for investments to come in, grow, and expand in the Metro Iloilo-Guimaras area, noting that "public-private sector partnership has been a key ingredient in the success of Iloilo, and we are hoping that more companies will become part of our dynamic business community.

“The investment locations possess an enabling condition for businesses to thrive and grow with incentives in place, strong private-public sector collaboration, and openness for joint ventures and other appropriate modalities,” Velma Jane C. Lao, executive director of MIGEDC also said. (AAL/JNH/PIA Iloilo)
