Normin dev't council reinforces anti-insurgency drive in schools

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY (PIA)-- The Regional Development Council (RDC)-10 recently endorsed the resolution adopting the school-based information campaign video against illegal recruitment by Communist Terrorist Groups (CTGs) as viewing material among junior and senior high school learners and first-year college students in the region.

In order to counter CTG recruitment strategies to attract students and the youth sector, the 2nd Mechanized Brigade of the Philippine Army produced the aforementioned video in collaboration with the Department of Education (DepEd)-Lanao del Norte, Mindanao State University-Iligan Institute of Technology (MSU-IIT), and Lanao del Norte Youth for Peace.

The campaign video aims to educate students about the deceptive schemes employed by CTGs in their recruitment activities, particularly in schools.

This effort supports the government's campaign to stamp out communist insurgencies in the country, guided by Executive Order No. 70, which provides for a “whole-of-nation approach” to defeat the communist insurgency.

DepEd, the Commission on Higher Education (CHED), the Philippine Information Agency (PIA), and the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) in Northern Mindanao have thoroughly examined the counterinsurgency information material and have conveyed their complete endorsement for its dissemination.

It was also presented to 41 schools in Lanao del Norte.

During its third quarter meeting, the RDC-10 stated that the video supports the goals set out in the Philippine and Regional Development Plans (P/RDP) 2023–2028, especially Chapter 14: ensuring peace, security, and public order as necessary steps to achieving economic transformation for a strong and prosperous community.

Accordingly, increasing public awareness of the peace and security initiatives of the government through a “laymanized” information education campaign (IEC) is likewise one of the strategies identified in the Northern Mindanao RDP 2023–2028 to prevent and counter threats from terrorism, radicalization, and violent extremism.

The RDC-10 approved resolution was endorsed by Region 10 and the central offices of DepEd and CHED for adoption. (APB/PIA-10)
