Papal Nuncio joins Antiqueños in Jubilee Year culmination

SAN JOSE, Antique (PIA) -- The Catholic Faithful recently celebrated the 60th year of the local church, the 40th year of the Diocese, the 35th year since the 1987 Diocesan Synod, and the 441st year of Christianity in this province.

With this, the Most Reverend Charles John Brown, Apostolic Nuncio to the Philippines, visited Antique for the culmination of the Jubilee Year of the Roman Catholic Diocese of San Jose de Antique on November 15.

First in his schedule was a courtesy visit to Governor Rhodora J. Cadiao and a meeting with provincial government officials where the Archbishop expressed joy in observing with the Antiqueño Catholics the special religious anniversaries.

His Grace then participated in the Jubilee Mass at St. Joseph Cathedral, highlighting in his homily the equality in dignity of all people in the eyes of God, regardless of social status or function.

“We are seated in different directions of the cathedral. We are different, but we are equal in dignity. Our vocations are not the same. Our responsibilities are not the same. But our value in the eyes of God is exactly the same,” said the Papal Nuncio.

Alongside Antique Bishop Marvyn Maceda, Archbishop Brown also led the unveiling of the Jubilee Marker at the Cathedral’s entrance.

He then attended a conference with the Clergy, Religious, and Seminarians at Antique Medical Center (AMC) in this capital town and visited the nearby Hamtic Parish Church, Malandog Historical Marker, and the children of St. Joseph Orphanage.

The Catholic Faithful also flocked to various locations connected with the visit to give their warmest welcome to the representative of the Pope in the Philippines. (AGP/AC/BPS/PIA Antique/Photos courtesy of Province of Antique-Provincial Information Office and Diocese of San Jose de Antique)
