BANGUED, Abra (PIA) — A new energy substation in Ilocos Note being eyed as an alternate source of connection for electricity for Abra and Ilocos Sur, according to the National Grid Corp. of the Philippines (NGCP).
NGCP Senior Manager Engr. Robert Julian said the Pinili 230 kilovolt substation project will help improve the transmission of reliable electricity to power cooperatives.
“Yung power na manggagaling sa Pinili Substation is mostly renewable. Meron tayong solar power na manggagaling sa Currimao going to our proposed Pinili Substation, so I think that will be one source of power going to the province of Abra,” he said.
During the Power 101 Seminar led by the NGCP, Julian said permits are now being processed to help speed up the project.
“We projected this to be completed before 2026, so hoping that by the fourth quarter of next year (2025), matapos natin yung Pinili Substation,” he added.
Other projects that the NGCP is planning to implement in Northern Luzon include the Northern Luzon 230 kilovolts Backbone Loop that will provide a new corridor for renewable energy and other power plants in the area; the Balaoan-Laoag 500 kilovolts Transmission Line Project that will accommodate the wind farm and solar power projects in Ilocos Norte; and the Bolo-Balaoan 500 kilovolt Transmission Line Project that will accommodate large generation capacities in La Union and Benguet.
