NHCP, RAFI LAUNCH SKILLOCAL VISAYAS 2025

CEBU CITY – The National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) and the Ramon Aboitiz Foundation, Inc. (RAFI) launched the Visayas leg of SkilLocál 2025 at The Kabilin Center, Cebu City on 25 March 2025. SkilLocál is the flagship training program of the NHCP-Local Historical Committees Network (LHCN) that aims to provide practitioners and cultural workers in the local and regional level key skills and knowledge in the development, documentation, preservation, and popularization of Philippine local history and cultural heritage.

For the inaugural cycle this 2025, SkilLocál will provide a specialized three-day Local History Writing Workshop to more than eighty (80) participants from across Western, Central, and Eastern Visayas. Resource speakers include Dr. Francis Navarro of the Ateneo de Manila University Archives and NHCP Commissioner who will discuss Basic Paleography and Archival Work, Dr. Jose Eleazar Bersales, Head of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts – National Committee on Museums, who will give insights on the available sources for Visayas local history, and Dr. Ma. Luisa Camagay, Professor Emeritus from the University of the Philippines Diliman, who will teach how to write local history research outputs.

The NHCP has partnered with RAFI, the head of the LHCN Visayas Cluster, for the inaugural session of SkilLocál which will also have legs in Mindanao and Luzon later this year.

The NHCP is the national government agency mandated to promote Philippine history through its museums, research, and publications, and to preserve historical heritage through conservation and the marking of historic sites and structures.
