NIA launches Kadiwa store in Catarman

CATARMAN, Northern Samar (PIA) — The National Irrigation Administration (NIA) has launched its first Kadiwa store at the Northern Samar Irrigation Management Office (NSIMO) in Brgy. Dalakit, Catarman, Northern Samar this month of September.

This is in line with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. agenda for a sustainable farming, food security, and ensuring availability and affordability in areas with high demand and in communities with low-income families.

The Kadiwa store provides fresh farm products such as rice, vegetables, and root crops and local delicacies at affordable price.

Northern Samar Federation of Irrigators Association President Maryjane S. Celespara expressed appreciation to the government-run Kadiwa, as they can sell directly their farm produce to consumers.

The local farmers benefit by getting higher farm gate prices for grains, fruits, vegetables, and native delicacies, while the public benefit by having access to fresh produce and lower prices.

NIA 8 Acting Regional Manager Jaime De Jesus, in his inspirational talk, encouraged the 32 farmer irrigators association to seek assistance from Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), and other government agencies to adopt value adding processes for a higher income of their products.

The launching was participated in by the different national government agencies like PIA, DA, DTI, NFA and some media practitioners who expressed their unwavering support and commitment to increase farmers’ income. (MMP/TBC/PIA Northern Samar)
