BAYOMBONG, Nueva Vizcaya (PIA) – The National Irrigation Administration (NIA) Region 2 will be establishing solar-powered irrigation systems to augment the irrigation needs of farmers in Nueva Vizcaya.
Engineer Felipa Sumer, NIA Irrigation Management Office chief, said 10 solar-powered irrigation projects worth P100 million will be constructed in the towns of Bambang, Aritao, Bayombong, Quezon, Sta. Fe, Villaverde and Solano.
“Farmer beneficiaries were recently consulted on these upcoming projects already and the signing of agreement has been made,” she said.
Danny Raspado, a farmer in Barangay Dadap in Solano town said the solar irrigation projects will be of great help for farmers.
“We need these kinds of projects especially now that prolonged drought is happening in various parts of the country. This will ensure our sustainable share of food security,” he said.
Once completed, the 10 solar farm facilities will benefit more than 150 farmers in the province.
Sumer said these additional solar irrigation projects will be constructed this year to augment the irrigation needs of farmers in the province in the wake of extreme weather conditions brought by climate change.
She also encouraged irrigators associations to donate at least 200 square meter lots as counterparts for the construction of solar-powered irrigation systems in their communities. (OTB/BME/PIA NVizcaya)
