QUEZON CITY (PIA) — The National Irrigation Administration (NIA) is set to lead the 22nd episode of the Kapihan sa Bagong Pilipinas (KBP), where it will unveil its increased budget and upcoming programs for Fiscal Year 2025, all aimed at achieving rice sufficiency in the Philippines.
NIA Administrator Eduardo Guillen will showcase the agency’s accomplishments and future plans to bolster the agricultural sector and support Filipino farmers.
A key initiative highlighted will be the groundbreaking Farming Support Services Program, which has enabled the provision of quality rice at P29 per kilo, making it more accessible for vulnerable communities across the country.
As a government-owned and controlled corporation, NIA is mandated to develop and manage irrigation resources across agricultural lands.
In September 2024, the agency was reinstated under the Office of the President through Executive Order No. 69, enhancing its role in national agricultural development.
The KBP is a nationwide media forum that takes place simultaneously across various regional offices of the featured agency. It is simulcast every Tuesday from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. providing a platform for dialogue on important government initiatives of the Marcos administration. The KBP is a project of the Presidential Communications Office in partnership with the Philippine Information Agency.
Through this event, NIA aims to engage with the public and stakeholders, emphasizing its commitment to improving agricultural productivity and food security in the country. (JVD/PIA-NCR)
