NIA trains Oriental Mindoro farmers in contract farming practices

CALAPAN CITY, Oriental Mindoro (PIA) — Farmers in Oriental Mindoro are now equipped with knowledge on the various practices to improve farming practices and increase income.

This was after the National Irrigation Administration (NIA) conducted a three-day training for farmers here who are engaged in contract farming.

The Contract Farming Program is a major initiative of NIA to boost agricultural productivity and support hardworking farmers.

The activity is designed to address critical aspects of modern agriculture, which includes proper seed-soaking methods and effective pest management strategies. NIA also introduced to the farmers the features and benefits of using Jackpot Hybrid Rice.

“These techniques help farmers achieve higher yields and produce better-quality crops, which are essential for enhancing crop resilience and productivity,” NIA said in a press release.

The members of various Irrigators’ Associations, such as the Mapalo Water System Irrigators Association, Inc., Aurora Naujan Oriental Mindoro IA (ANOM IA), Inc., Samahang Magpapatubig ng Bayanan 2 Irrigators’ Association, Inc., Sumviltad Irrigators Association, Inc., and Murvic Irrigators’ Association, Inc. were the participants to the training.

“These associations play an essential role in the local agricultural sector, and the training aimed to enhance their capabilities in managing their irrigation systems and agricultural practices,” NIA added, noting that the agency will continue to empower local farmers, ensuring better crop yields and sustainable farming practices. (AS/PIA MIMAROPA-Oriental Mindoro)
