NICA trains gov’t information officers on basic self protection from scammers, suspicious persons

SAN JOSE, Antique — The National Intelligence Coordinating Agency Regional Office 6 (NICA-6) recently conducted a webinar among government information officers here on how to protect oneself from danger and also not to fall victim to scammers.

The agency’s representative, Mr. Jay Andrada, emphasized the importance of familiarization with the surroundings whenever situated in a certain building or place, particularly, by locating the entry and exit points, as well as identifying the safety points, like police stations.

He said that since criminals tend to look for easy targets, the public is also encouraged to walk fast with a purpose, and establish eye contact with people around.

When feeling vulnerable or threatened, asking for help is a life-saver, Andrada noted.

He also underscored the importance of personal security in digital environments, emphasizing extra precautions when dealing with messages or calls from unidentified numbers.

In particular, he warned of entertaining messages that have grammatical errors or are offering deals that are “too good to be true,” as he noted that these are the first signs of scams.

Acknowledging the importance of information in keeping oneself safe, Andrada urged the public to share personal security tips with others and contribute to maintaining a peaceful and safe community. (PIA Antique)
