ILOILO CITY (PIA) — The National Museum of the Philippines (NMP)-Iloilo opened its two new art galleries on December 13, 2024, giving Ilonggos added cultural attractions to visit, especially this Christmas season.
The two new galleries were the Fine Arts and Archaeology, which features the exhibition, Halangdon: The Art of J. (Jeremias) Elizalde Navarro; and the Maritime and Underwater Archaeology that presents Dumaan nga Pagpangabuhi sa Panay: Subsistence, Trade, and Funerary Practices.
Elizalde Navarro is a National Artist from San Jose de Buenavista, Antique who expressed his creativity through diverse media, including oil, acrylic, watercolor, metal, wood, print, and found objects. His artistic explorations encompassed abstract and figurative paintings, sculptures, and assemblages.
The Dumaan nga Pagpangabúhi sa Panay: Subsistence, Trade, and Funerary Practices exhibition, on the other hand , would take visitors into the prehistoric past of Panay Island.
From the Late Pleistocene to the 18th century common era (CE), the exhibition showcases artifacts and other archaeological finds in the region, revealing the changing lifestyles of the island’s ancient inhabitants.
The exhibit promotes “a deeper understanding and appreciation of the local archaeological heritage and enrich your knowledge of Panay Island’s deep history.”
Meanwhile, the NMP -Iloilo extends its operation hours from 9:00 A.M. to 5:00 PM to 9:00 A.M. to 8:00 P.M. starting December 14 to 22, 2024. (AAL/JNH/PIA Iloilo)
