MISAMIS ORIENTAL (PIA)–The National Nutrition Council (NNC)-10 recognized its nutrition partners and stakeholders during the recently concluded 2023 Regional Nutrition Awarding Ceremony (RNAC) on November 10.
“This occasion serves as a platform to acknowledge the outstanding contribution made by the local government units (LGUs) and various stakeholders in addressing nutrition-related challenges and creating sustainable solutions while inspiring and motivating individuals and organizations to continue advocating nutrition by making positive nutrition outcomes in the region,” NNC-10 Regional Nutrition Program Coordinator Gladys Mae Fernandez said.
To determine the awardees, the council conducts the Monitoring and Evaluation of Local Level Plan of Implementation (MELLPI) Pro to assess local nutrition programs implemented in various LGUs in the region and the performance of local nutrition focal points.
The RNAC is an annual event where the council recognizes and acknowledges the achievements and efforts of the LGUs, nutrition focal points, nutrition stakeholders, and partners in promoting and improving nutrition in the region.
This year’s Green Banner Seal of Compliance was awarded to 12 local government units in Northern Mindanao, recognizing their exemplary performance in 2022. Two LGUs in Misamis Oriental—El Salvador City and Gingoog City—and ten LGUs in Bukidnon Province—Cabanglasan, Dangcagan, Impasug-ong, Kitaotao, Lantapan, Maramag, Panantucan, San Fernando, Sumilao, and Talakag—received the prestigious seal.
Meanwhile, the Bukidnon provincial government and its five towns–Don Carlos, Kadingilan, Libona, Manolo Fortich, and Quezon–including Valencia City, received the Nutrition Honor Award Merit.
The Municipality of Sumilao in Bukidnon is vying for the Consistent Regional Outstanding Winner in Nutrition award, while Cagayan de Oro City is a contender for the Nutrition Honor Award.
For the local nutrition focal points, Hazel Dondonayos from Valencia City, Bukidnon, received the 2022 Region 10 Outstanding City Nutrition Action Officer Award; Sherill Faith Española from Cagayan de Oro City was the 2022 Region 10 Outstanding City Nutrition Program Coordinator; and Loidaliza Viscayno as the 2022 Region 10 Outstanding Barangay Nutrition Scholar.
The three awardees are also contenders for the national-level award for the same category.
NNC-10 has proudly produced ten Nutrition Honor awardees since 2002 and remains steadfast in its commitment to nurturing more outstanding awardees in the years to come. They wholeheartedly encourage all LGUs and nutrition focal points to maintain their unwavering collaboration in achieving the objectives outlined in the Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition and the Regional Action Plan for Nutrition.
