KORONADAL CITY, South Cotabato (PIA) — The National Nutrition Council (NNC) XII described the vital role of the media as “very instrumental” in strengthening the campaign to ensure that healthy food is accessible and affordable for all.
Retsebeth Laquihon, regional nutrition program coordinator of the NNC XII, said the media is an excellent partner in enriching the knowledge of the public on good nutrition.
“Still, the cost-effective and cost-efficient strategy to combat malnutrition is to raise awareness, empower, capacitate, and make the public literate,” she emphasized during the launching of the 49th Nutrition Month here Tuesday, adding that this can be attained through the help of media partners.
Laquihon also urged the media to be one with the NNC XII in raising awareness, particularly among policymakers, stakeholders, and families, about the need to improve access to an affordable, healthy diet to reduce malnutrition and enhance food security.
“The media is instrumental in shaping the landscape of nutrition in the region,” she said, urging all stakeholders to take part in a collaborative effort to achieve a malnourished-free region.
Based on the 2022 Soccsksargen Nutrition Status, the regional data on malnutrition among 0–59-month-old children showed an improving or decreasing trend of undernutrition and a fluctuating trend for obesity. (SJDM – PIA 12)
