Normin PUV modernization program consolidation reaches 98%

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY (PIA) — The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB)-10 reported that 98 percent of public utility vehicle (PUV) operators in the region have consolidated or applied for consolidation.

LTFRB-10 Regional Director Abosamen Matuan highlighted the significance of this achievement during the second episode of Kapihan sa Bagong Pilipinas, stating that, in terms of consolidation, Region 10 ranks among the top performers nationwide.

Matuan stated that LTFRB-10 has taken action against the remaining two percent who have not complied with the consolidation directives, labeling them as ‘colorum’ and prohibiting them from operating on their routes.

“We are awaiting the final order from the Central Office to conduct the ‘anti-colorum’ operation,” Matuan remarked, emphasizing the agency’s commitment to enforcing regulations while ensuring due process.

He stated that “colorum” unconsolidated operators will receive a show-cause order to give them a chance to explain their non-compliance.

LTFRB-10 has also implemented a social support program for operators affected by the Public Transportation Modernization Program, which includes the Tsuper Iskolar and EnTSUPERneur programs.

Addressing concerns regarding the roadworthiness of PUVs, Matuan stressed the importance of safety inspections, noting that PUVs must undergo thorough inspections before certification can be issued.

He acknowledged that the region may be home to alleged dilapidated vehicles classified as colorums, but he assured that an inter-agency operation against colorums was imminent. (APB/PIA-10)
