ZAMBOANGA CITY, Mar 14 (PIA) – The National Telecommunication Commission 9 (NTC-9) intensifies its campaign on Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) registration in Zamboanga City especially in remote barangays with limited resources and network connection.
NTC 9 together with the different telecommunication companies facilitated the SIM Registration in barangay Labuan on Monday, March 13, barangay Sinunuc on Tuesday, March 14 and barangay Ayala on Wednesday, March 15. This facilitated SIM registration in remote areas is intended to make SIM card registration easy and accessible in the barangays.
Dir. Jurmobin Baddiri, Regional Director of NTC-9 continuously reminds and encourages the public and mobile phone users to register their SIM before the deadline, “SIM registration is very important, as this aims to stop online and mobile scams,” he added.
The City Government of Zamboanga under the leadership of Mayor John Dalipe strongly supports the campaign and also encourages telecommunication companies to intensify their activities to invite more registrants.
Moreover, NTC clarifies that the visits in different barangays are being conducted only in strategic areas and will not be able to visit all barangays in the city. However, neighboring or near barangays can also be accommodated in the said areas where they will be visiting.
The campaign is being intensified as the deadline for the SIM registration is on April 26, 2023. SIM cards that will not be registered after the deadline will be deactivated. Republic Act 11934 or the Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) Registration Act which regulates the use of SIM cards by mandating all end-users to register their mobile phone numbers.
Under the law, all existing SIM subscribers are required to submit an accomplished form through a database platform or website provided by the telecommunications firms within 180 days. (RVC/MLE/PIA9-Zamboanga City)
