Nueva Vizcaya bats for ‘Coffee Champ’ tag in CagVal

BAYOMBONG, Nueva Vizcaya (PIA) – Coffee industry stakeholders in Nueva Vizcaya are vying for the top spot as Cagayan Valley’s coffee champion.

Atty. Michael Paggabao, DTI provincial director, said the goal was the focus of the recent meeting with the members and officers of the Nueva Vizcaya Coffee Industry Development Council.

“The Provincial Coffee Industry Council, along with National Government Agencies, Local Government Units, and Civic and People’s Organizations need to converge in implementing initiatives, projects, and activities that will further elevate the coffee industry,” he said.

Aggabao also encouraged partner agencies and organizations to focus their initial activities on addressing challenges in the production and other problems identified by the farmers such as the need for more seedlings and a quality grader for coffee beans, among others.

He bared the planned activities of the coffee industry players such as the conduct of coffee roadshows in the various barangays in September and October this year to intensify advocacies and the conduct of activities for the World Coffee Day Celebration such as the Regional Coffee Caravan, Brewing Competition, Public Cupping, Latte Art Competition, soft launching of the Unified Coffee Branding of Nueva Vizcaya, creation of coffee shop owners’ association and the Coffee Planting activity.

These activities will be implemented in the first week of October 2024.

“Partnerships with other NGAs, LGUs, and Academe will be strengthened and intensified to further assist the coffee industry stakeholders with their needs,” Paggabao said.

He said Nueva Vizcaya will be hosting this year’s Regional Coffee Caravan.

The Nueva Vizcaya coffee bagged the Outstanding Coffee Green Grading Results with zero to minimum defects award at this year’s Philippine Coffee Quality Competition. (OTB/BME/PIA Region 2)
