Nueva Vizcaya coffee farmers eye P7.5M aid from DOLE

BAYOMBONG, Nueva Vizcaya (PIA) – The potential coffee production landscape in Nueva Vizcaya has prompted the Department of Labor and Employment to provide financial support amounting to P7.5 million.

DOLE Provincial Director Elizabeth Martinez said the provision of financial assistance to the coffee industry here was conceived in partnership with the Provincial Local Government Unit.

“This assistance is expected to be released to the PLGU before the end of this year. This assistance and partnership is expected to further boost the coffee industry in Nueva Vizcaya,” she said.

Through this financial assistance, the coffee farmers’ organizations in the towns of Ambaguio, Sta. Fe, Kasibu, Kayapa, and Dupax del Sur will benefit through the provision of coffee production and processing equipment to enhance their livelihood.

Martinez said DOLE will also roll out funds to at least 13 coffee shops in the province ranging from  P250,000 to P300,000 to provide training and equipment to improve and sustain the quality of their coffee products.

Coffee industry players in Nueva Vizcaya continue to receive product quality recognition and nationwide patronage through the Department of Trade and Industry’s assistance and exposure to trade fairs.

In June this year, three coffee producers in this province maintained their good coffee quality, earning the Outstanding Coffee Green Grading Results with zero to minimum defects award at this year’s Philippine Coffee Quality Competition (PCQC).

The PCQ-certified coffee producers are the Bumolo’s Integrated Farm, Bugkalot Coffee Growers Cooperative, and the Tiblac Farmers Agriculture Cooperative.

The PCQC is an annual event that aims to identify the best quality coffees in the country and promote Philippine Specialty Coffee to domestic and global markets that can improve business opportunities for all Philippine coffee stakeholders.(OTB/BME/PIA NVizcaya)
