Nueva Vizcaya gov’t to give disaster survival ‘Go Bags’

BAYOMBONG, Nueva Vizcaya (PIA) – The Provincial Local Government Unit of Nueva Vizcaya is set to distribute disaster survival ‘Go Bags’ to help vulnerable villagers during disasters and calamities.

King Webster Balaw-ing, Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management officer, said nearly 300 ‘Go Bags’ are now initially packed and awaiting distribution at the PDRRMO headquarters.

He said that out of the P14 million allotted for the program, the initial phase would see 14,000 families receiving these life-saving ‘Go Bags’.

He said the ‘Go Bag’ contents include designated emergency essentials such as flashlights, hard hats, blankets, batteries, insect repellent, etc., and specified medical equipment such as bandages, gauze, disinfectant, and masks, among others.

“Each Go Bag may also be equipped with a solar-powered transistor radio for purposes of communication. Distribution of the Go Bags is in the planning stage and is yet to be announced, ” Balaw-ing said.

He said the ‘Go Bag’ was conceived to strengthen disaster preparedness and resilience among Novo Vizcayanos especially those identified as vulnerable families living in high-risk areas.

“This initiative aims to equip families vulnerable to natural disasters such as landslides, flash floods, and earthquakes with essential survival gear,” Balaw-ing said.

The ‘Go Bag’ is a comprehensive survival kit designed to provide immediate assistance during emergencies.

It can also be used as a flotation device, adding an extra layer of safety. (OTB/BME/PIA NVizcaya)
