BAYOMBONG, Nueva Vizcaya (PIA) – Farmer organizations in the upland town of Alfonso Castañeda, Nueva Vizcaya are expected to receive assistance from the Department of Agriculture to boost their production.
Dr. Roberto Busania, DA regional technical director, said the Alfonso Castaneda Vegetable Growers Associations (ALCAVEGA), Abuyo Onion Farmers Association, and the Local Government Unit of Alfonso Castañeda were identified recipients of agricultural project funds, which will be implemented next year.
He said the ALCAVEGA will receive P64.5 million in agricultural production support funds under the DA’s High-Value Crops Development Program.
Busania said the P10.5 million fund will be for the establishment of greenhouses, the P50 million will be for solar drip fertigation, and the P4 million will be for packing/pre-cooling houses, while another P1 million will be for seed support.
He said the Abuyo Onion Farmers Association and the municipal government of Alfonso Castañeda will also receive P 61.2 million for onion seed assistance and a cold storage facility.
Busania said they have conducted on-site validation and consultation with the stakeholders which resulted in the commitment of both parties for the management and sustainability of the upcoming agricultural assistance and projects. (OTB/BME/PIA NVizcaya)
