DAGUPAN CITY (PIA) — The Regional Organization of Nutrition Development Advocates-Region 1 (RONDA-1), in cooperation with the National Nutrition Council-Region 1 (NNC-1) and the local government unit (LGU) of Mangatarem, will conduct an advocacy campaign to promote good nutrition among families in a geographically isolated area (GIDA) in Mangatarem town on November 28-29, 2023.
Jay Miguel Mendoza, president of RONDA-1 and station manager of Sonshine Radio Dagupan, said the activity is part of the advocacy campaign of NNC to increase awareness among families and individuals on the importance of proper nutrition and healthy lifestyle, especially during the first 1000 days of life.
Mendoza said during the two-day event, NNC-Region 1 will provide lectures on the first 1000 days and 10 Kumainments while the Department of Science and Technology (DOST)-Region 1 will provide livelihood training on mushroom product development.
He said the La Union-Pangasinan-Ilocos Barangay Nutrition Scholars (LUPang Ilocos BNS) and Regional League of Nutrition Action Officers in Region 1 will also conduct film viewing, games, and gift-giving for children during the event.
Kendall Pilgrim Gatan, officer-in-charge of NNC-Region 1 and RONDA-1 adviser, said around 150 pregnant and lactating mothers, indigent families, senior citizens, and persons with disability from Barangay Lawak Langka are expected to benefit from the activity that aims to increase community involvement in nutrition and related activities.
Gatan said aside from lectures of NNC, participants could also avail of the following services through the NNC and RONDA’s partner agencies: nutrition counseling, distribution of multivitamins, breastfeeding kits and information, education and communication materials; distribution of seeds and seedlings and planting paraphernalia; and family planning services.
