Occidental Mindoro’s economy posts 5.5% growth in 2022

SAN JOSE, Occidental Mindoro (PIA) – The Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of Occidental Mindoro posted a growth of 5.5 percent in 2022 estimated at P52.56 billion. It was slightly lower than the 9.4 percent growth rate registered in the previous year.

Among the major industries, Agriculture, forestry and fishing and Industry slowed down to 2.2 percent and 5.8 percent, respectively. Meanwhile, Services accelerated by 7.6 percent. The main contributors to the 5.5 percent growth in the GDP of the province were: Construction, which grew 11.1 percent, Wholesale and retail trade; repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles, which posted a growth of 8.0 percent and Agriculture, forestry, and fishing with a growth of 2.2 percent.

The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) established through Republic Act No. 10625, otherwise known as the Philippine Statistical Act of 2013 is tasked, among others, to compile and maintain macroeconomic accounts and indicators, at the national and subnational level.

The Provincial Product Accounts or PPA has been the mechanism of the PSA to compile the annual estimates of Gross Domestic Product by province/HUC, consistent with the National and Regional Accounts of the Philippines. In 2023, all provinces and one Highly Urbanized City (HUC) of Mimaropa continue to implement the PPA since its inception in 2021, together with other pilot regions. As of 2023, there are a total of 82 provinces and 17 HUCs compiling the PPA.
