OCD-10 extends aid to Bicol after tropical storm Kristine’s devastation

LAGUINDINGAN, Misamis Oriental (PIA) – In response to the devastation from tropical storm Kristine, the Office of Civil Defense (OCD)-10 initiated efforts to enhance relief in the heavily impacted Bicol Region.

Recognizing the urgent need for supplies and manpower, OCD-10 dispatched essential resources and personnel early on October 25. It sent various non-food items (NFIs) to support displaced families cope with the storm’s aftermath. The NFIs included 100 family food packs, 400 hygiene kits, 150 pieces of malong (wraparound), and 1,178 blankets.

To provide clean drinking water to affected communities,

OCD-10 also deployed two water filtration units. These systems are vital to prevent the spread of waterborne diseases, which pose a threat in disaster-stricken areas with compromised access to clean water.

The 4th Infantry “Diamond” Division, known for its rapid response capabilities, helped in the logistics of the operation.

At 3:00 AM, five KM450 military trucks mobilized to transport relief items from the OCD-10 warehouse to Laguindingan Airport, assisted by military personnel. The collaboration between the military and OCD-10 emphasizes the importance of inter-agency cooperation during disaster response, where every minute counts in delivering aid.

Three OCD-10 personnel accompanied the supplies to oversee delivery and assist in distributing and managing relief efforts in the Bicol Region. They transported the supplies via air using the army’s C-130 plane to Legaspi Airport. From there, local government units (LGUs) and other on-site relief organizations will distribute the goods to affected communities.

This relief mission highlights the government’s commitment to swiftly support affected regions, minimizing further suffering for storm-impacted families.

The coordinated efforts of OCD-10, the 4th Infantry Division, and local authorities showcase the resilience and preparedness of disaster response teams in mobilizing logistical and human resources during critical times. (JAKA/PIA-10)
